THE NINETEEN EIGHTIES

1985 was their break-through year. In April of that year, All Fall Down" was released and reached number #15 in the UK top 40 singles chart. The B-side "First Avenue" an instrumental written by Denise which was was nominated for a Grammy.

In June their debut album "Luxury of life" was released reaching number #12 eventually. In July "Let me be the One" was released reaching number #18,"Love Take Over" followed in September reaching number #25

In November 1985 "R.S.V.P" was released only managing to reach number #45.

In December 1985 Five star were asked to perform at the "Childrens Royal Variety Performance" in fornt of the Queen of England and offered their own TV show by the "Walt Disney Company".

1986 "System Addict" , their 6th single from the album "Luxury of Life" was released climbing all the way up to number #3. They also was presented with a Gold disc for the album "Luxury of Life", which would eventually reach double Platinum and also boasting already countless Television appearances.

Around this time Five Star went to America to start recording their second album entitled "Silk & Steel". Their first release from that album entitled "Can't Wait Another Minute" was released in March and received by fans as a great success reached number #7, shortly followed by the release of "Find the Time" also reaching number #7, Their 3rd release from this album "Rain or Shine" was released in July 1986 went to number #2 which would be the stars highest charting single, in November came "If i Say Yes", their fifth single from the number One album "Silk and Steel" getting to number #15 before re-charting in December of the same year.

"Silk and steel" was released in August 1986 and went straight to number #1. "Silk & Steel" went quadruple Platinum.And made Five star the first Black British and youngest act to achieve this, gaining them a place in the Guiness book of records.

1986 was also the year Five star went "Live" for their "Crunchie Tour" in September the tour started in "Poole" on the 14th,it was to run for 33 dates and finishing on 25 October at the Hammersmith odeon. This tour was totally sold out.

In 1987 "Stay out of my Life" was released their first self penned track, written by Denise, this went to chart at number #9.

In February Five star won the "B.P.I Award for Best British group" and opened the show performing "Can't Wait".

On the 14th of this month Five Star moved from their Childhood family home in Romford to Stone Court in Sunningdale, Royal Berkshire. April seen the release of "The Slightest Touch" which got to number #4. Whilst in the USA "Are You Man Enough?" was released.

In July of this year Five star announced plans for a second tour to promote their 3rd album "Between the lines"..the "Ultrabrite ( Children of the Night ") tour.

August saw the release of "Whenever Your'e Ready", the groups brand new sound from their new Album "Between The Lines" which reached number #11 and a two week promotional visit to America.

With now over 80.000 registered fan members in their self run UK Fan Club, they released "Strong as Steel" that coincided with the start of the "Ultrabrite" tour in September..."Strong as steel" peaked at number #16.

The tour kicked of on October the 5th in Dublin at the RDS with the tour finishing on the 26th of October Wembley.In November the last single to be released from "Between the lines" was to be "Somewhere Somebody" which would climb steadily to number #23 position in the charts and gaining them another performance at the "Royal Variety Show" in December in front of her Royal Majesty the Queen of England..

"Between the Lines" their 3rd album was also released this month reaching the number #6 spot.

Five star took a break for the first part of 1988 and in May they hit the charts again with "Another wekend" which brought a new look, which they showed for the first time when they appeared on the "Wogan" show wearing Rock and Leather style outfits, Doris and Lorraine with black hair extensions and Denise with Blonde extensions and wearing a rubber catsuit, Five star had gone for a sexier look. "Another Weekend" , their first again re-vamped music style reached number #18.

In July of 1988 came the second single "Rock my World" which reached number #28 which was released beside their 4th album "Rock the World" which made it to number #16 in the British album charts.

In September came the third release "Theres A Brand New World" making it to #61

In November "Let me be Yours" which was to be the bands last release form the Rock The World Album was released reaching number #51which featured an original music video featuring the band all playing one person getting ready for an evening out, This is a rare to get hold of Video and not many have seen the full video.

1989 saw the release of "Someones In Love " in the USA only which brought a change of vocals as sister Doris now took a turn singing lead. No video was made for this and as we know theres no known live performance of it,this also being a fan fave.

In 1989 in February Five star released "With Every Heartbeat" this made it to #49 in the UK charts, this was an exclusive song only available on the bands Latest release "Greatest Hits" from 1989, this would later be quoted as the best compilation album from a band of the 1980's.
